Ntsoma Water Project
Project background
Globally, one in nine people in the world do not have access to clean water near their home. Access to good sanitation and clean drinking water is still a problem all over the developing world, and many charities are working to alleviate this problem.
Ntsoma is a small village some 140km away from the city of Bulawayo in Zimbabwe. Before we were able to help, residents would walk up to 15km each way to get access to clean drinking water. Even worse, during the dry season, residents would be forced to collect water from a nearby dam which wasn't safe to drink.
How did we help?
We worked with local partners to identify the best location for two new wells to serve the village of Ntsoma and the seven surrounding wards. We then secured funding and dug the wells and installed pumps for the residents to have reliable, year-round access to clean drinking water.
Project outcomes
The impact of something as simple as clean water has had a profound impact on the residents of the village and surrounding wards. Having constant access to clean, safe water has led to healthier, happier residents who are still extremely grateful for the new wells. We're especially happy to see that children are no longer drinking from unsafe water sources out of necessity.
Additionally, not having to spend so long each day just to collect the necessary water has improved the quality of life for families in the area. Projects like these continue to deliver lasting benefits long after the initial work was completed, so this won't be the last water project for Dumi International Aid.
